About Us

Cowford Companies was founded by Robert West, a fourth-generation Jacksonville native, with a deep appreciation for the history, people, and institutions that have shaped Northeast Florida. The name "Cowford" pays homage to Jacksonville's original name, reflecting our belief that enduring success is built through stewardship, community, and a long-term perspective.

Having grown up in Jacksonville and witnessed its continued growth and transformation, our founder is passionate about preserving the blue-collar character, entrepreneurial spirit, and sense of community that make this region unique. Cowford Companies was established to invest in local businesses while offering owners a values-driven successor who understands the importance of legacy, relationships, and community impact.

We believe great companies are more than financial assets—they are collections of people, families, customers, and histories. Our goal is to serve as responsible stewards of those companies for generations to come.

As a long-term owner and operator, we seek opportunities to build upon the foundations established by founders and business owners who have dedicated years of hard work to creating something meaningful.

Founder Bio

Robert founded Cowford Companies to acquire and operate exceptional businesses throughout North Florida and South Georgia while preserving the legacies, cultures, and relationships that make them special.

Robert began his career advising founder-owned and lower middle-market businesses on mergers and acquisitions, ultimately helping build and lead a sell-side M&A advisory practice. He later transitioned into executive leadership roles within the payments and financial technology industry, serving in leadership positions with OnPay Solutions, EBizCharge, Fortis, and Humboldt Merchant Services, where he serves as its President.

Robert holds a BA from the University of Florida and an MBA from Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management. Robert has served on various BODs and volunteered at his church and with other chartiable organizations. He currently serves as the Chapter Advisor for the Kappa Alpha Order at the University of Florida and a mentor in the Beyond120 program with the University of Florida's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He was also honored as one of Jacksonville's 40 under 40 in 2022 by the Jacksonville Business Journal.

Through his experience as both an advisor and operator, Robert developed a deep appreciation for the role small and lower middle-market businesses play in supporting families, creating opportunity, and strengthening the Jacksonville area community. That belief ultimately led to the founding of Cowford Companies.

Outside of work, Robert is an avid golfer, enjoys watching Florida Gators athletics, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Atlanta Braves, and spending time with his wife, Sara, their three children, and their Brittany Spaniel, Jax—named after their beloved hometown of Jacksonville.
